How We Serve the Gurnee Community

Our mission is to defend the lives, rights, and quality of life of all residents and visitors we serve with honor and integrity.  The men and women of the Gurnee Police Department are fully committed to accomplishing this mission by achieving the four fundamental objectives listed below.  

To provide a proactive and educational approach to reducing crime.

Our primary function is to prevent crime. Officers must be in the right places, at the right times, doing the right things. Gurnee Police Officers are encouraged to "own" the beat they patrol and work in partnership with residents to address crime and solve neighborhood problems.
To provide a rapid and professional response to confront crime as it occurs.

We are committed to respond appropriately when crime occurs. This commitment includes a sure first response, thorough and complete investigations, continuing analysis of crime, and the shifting of resources to address emerging trends. We are also committed to partnerships in the greater law enforcement community to maximize our resources and expertise.
To create an excellent partnership with the community through exceptional communication and transparency.

We realize that crime problems can only be effectively addressed in partnership with the community. We have a duty and a responsibility to maintain a relationship with the public that reflects the tradition that "the police are the public, and the public are the police." We must constantly work to maintain and develop new bonds with the community and be committed to earning and maintaining public trust.
