To be considered for employment with the Gurnee Police Department, applicants must meet the minimum requirements and qualifications:

- United States citizen or Naturalized citizen.
- Minimum 20 years of age (21 years of age by police academy graduation date) and less than 35 years of age as of application deadline unless otherwise exempt. Military Veterans may exceed the maximum age by the number of years served on active military duty but by no more than 10 years of active military duty.
- Graduation from high school or equivalent thereof.
- Valid driver’s license.
AND at least one of the following:

- College coursework towards 60 hours of college credit [must provide proof of 60 hours completed prior to hire]; OR
- At least two (2) years United States military service; OR
- ILETSB Basic Correctional Officer Training certification [submit certificate with application]; OR
- Experience as a full time sworn law enforcement officer; must be able to be certified in accordance with 50 ILCS 705/8.1 [submit certificate with application]
